God is Our Defense

God is Our Defense

This week I have been reading Nehemiah chapter 4. Nehemiah was the governor of Judah who was on a mission to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem that had been torn down.  Nehemiah was a great man of God who believed in prayer and fasting and he was able to motivate the people of God to work together to rebuild the walls (1).  In Jeremiah 4:6 we are told that “the people had a mind to work”.

The enemies of the people of God were upset about their progress and attempted to bring the work to a halt. The people of God were not moved; instead vs.9 reveals to us their response to the enemy.

Jeremiah 4:9

Nevertheless we made our prayer unto Our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

As we set out to do God’s work to minister to and help our community, we can be confident in that we are not defenseless. There will be opposition, challenges, and obstacles when we walk in God’s purpose for our lives. We have to know that we are triumphant in Christ! That in Him there is nothing impossible to those that believe.

In our continuous prayers and our steadfast faith in God we can do great things in him!

Psalms 3:3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory and the lifter up of mine head.

Remember this Saturday we will have our Prayer Meet at 1pm at 900 Lexington Ave.  We look forward to seeing you there!

We will be praying for all students (elementary, middle school, and high school) so bring your children! They are always welcome to join us!

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

We Refuse To Go Without God’s Presence!

I’ve been studying Exodus 33 and in this chapter Moses reminds us of the importance of God’s presence.  Our lives can be busy as we go day to day. There is always something to do, there’s always a deadline, an appointment, places to be—people to see. With all that’s going on in our lives we have to make it a priority to spend time with God our Father.

Moses understood that God’s presence was a necessity.  The children of Israel were headed to their destination that God promised them, but Moses refused to go without the presence of God. This text is powerful because we see that Moses is pleading with God in prayer. He tells God if your presence does not go with us do not bring us up from here (Exodus 33:15). Moses made this statement after God had already told him; My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest (Exodus 33:14). Moses wanted reassurance that God would be with his people.

During his conversation with God, Moses was not concerned with the new land, the possessions, or victory over the enemy. His desire was for God’s presence. Moses knew that if they obtained the Promised Land and inherited riches and victory over the enemy it would all be nothing if God was not with them.  Moses knew that God’s presence was the only thing that separated them from the world.

This is a lesson to us as God’s children that we are to seek God’s presence above everything.  Without God’s presence we are nothing. Without God’s presence we are defenseless against the attacks of the enemy. The only thing that separates us from the world is God’s presence.

Are we taking the time we need to be in His presence? Of course we know that God is with us, but are we seeking Him?

Maybe we are not experiencing all of God’s goodness (His Glory) because we have not acknowledged His presence.  If we find that we have neglected to spend time with our Father, its not too late.  Our Father is waiting for us, full of grace and mercy and he will show us His glory! Be encouraged today for we have a Heavenly Father who loves us despite our shortcomings!

Our prayer today is: Lord, be with us. We need you and we can’t do anything without you. We need your presence this day.  Show us your glory this day. We know that with you all things are possible. Thank you for being with us and for meeting our every need. We refuse to move forward without your presence! We love and appreciate you this day. Amen

****JOIN US FOR OUR PRAYER CALL THIS THURSDAY JUNE13TH***  7:30pm EST Call (209) 647-1600 access code 148178#  SPECIAL GUEST:SHINEKA C. KARIM  Founder, SCK International  www.shinekakarim.com

In my personal study I have been inspired by the lessons that I am learning in 2 Chronicles 20. What an awesome display of God’s willingness to intervene on our behalf when we are in trouble.  The King of Judah received a report that three armies were joining forces to attack the people of God.  Yes, three armies (no, not one, but THREE) had committed to destroying the people of God. The bible says that as soon as the King received the report that Jehoshaphat prayed and went to God for help.  He cried out to God, and expressed his faith that he knew God would give them victory.

The scripture say that when he cried out for prayer that the spirit of the Lord came in the midst and a prophet began to speak saying (vs. 15 NKJV) “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”  The people were told that they did not need to fight in this battle.  That they only needed to position themselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD.

The King commanded the people to BELIEVE God.  The bible tells us that the people responded to this word with worship and praise.  The End Result: The people of God were given the victory over the enemy. The scriptures tell us in vs 22 that the Lord set ambushes against the enemy and they began to destroy themselves.   WOW!!!

Our God is mighty in battle! We have the VICTORY over the enemy! WE MUST BELIEVE

We have all been in situations in which it seems defeat is inevitable. I have been in circumstances where it seemed the enemy was closing in on me, and the situation was out of control.  In order for us to come out victorious in challenging times we have to believe God.  We have to believe that God is in control.  The evidence of our belief is in our praise.  We have to ask ourselves do we truly trust that God will bring us out and then examine our responses to trouble.

Our response to the report of trouble reveals our level of faith. If we are always worried, stress, negative, doubtful, pessimistic, sad, depressed, etc…then we should check our faith levels.

However if we can smile through hurt, laugh in pain, let go and let God, be hopeful, optimistic, love despite hate, we will see God bless us in a miraculous way!

Some of the most important moments occur just before the miracle takes place. Our faith sets the atmosphere for a miracle to happen. WE MUST BELIEVE!

Let us pray and not faint! Get in a position of praise! Have faith in God! It’s all working out in our favor!

Philipians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Our 1st Prayer Meet Recap!! Living Victoriously With the T.H.O.R.N. in my flesh!

Our First Prayer Meet at United Baptist Church 900 Lexington Ave Dayton OH 45402

The Ladies filling out their vision cards at our First Prayer Meet at United Baptist Church 900 Lexington Ave Dayton OH 45402

Recap of our 1st Prayer Meet

It was hard for me to put into words what we experienced this past Saturday.   I prayed to God that he would show up in a powerful way, but as always He exceeded my expectations.

The ladies that showed up at this prayer meet came from different denominations, backgrounds, some new, some regulars, we had multiple age groups represented; but we were all in unity and on one accord as we talked about our discussion topic: Living Victoriously with the T.H.O.R.N.  in my Flesh.

Kinnita Johnson-Devoise shared her gift of poetry. It was a powerful piece and we pray that we hear more from our sister in the future!

We talked about characteristics of those that come into our lives that often times leave us with pain, hurt, and disappointment.  God is teaching us that we must be aware of these characteristics so that we are able to discern when someone is good for us or when we need to let them go.

We talked about T.akers, H.aters, O.bservors, R.eligious, N.aysayers — The awesome part of this discussion is that the focal point was not the THORN, but on how we can overcome despite the challenges we face.  We also held ourselves accountable…What role did we play? Did we put ourselves in a situation to fail? Did we trust God and wait on Him? Did we hold our peace or fly off the handle because we lack self-control? There was sharing of the Word of God, wisdom, transparency, enthusiasm, respect, love…it was phenomenal.

We ended the Prayer meet by completing our Vision Cards (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

On these cards we wrote what God has placed inside of us that has yet to be manifested, visions, ideas, gifts, talent… We are praying that these things come to pass in our lives!

We ended in tag-team prayer with myself, Minister Catherine Young, and Minister Celita McBeth. What a powerful time of prayer and fellowship!

1 Thessalonians 5: 11-17 instructs us to comfort one another, edify and uplift each other, to pray without ceasing, to know those that labor in ministry… We did this on Saturday and God moved in a powerful way! After the prayer meet I have received testimonies, sisters are reaching out to find out how they can be a blessing…Its Amazing!  It’s the Lord! He gets ALL glory!

I know that God is moving in a powerful way… I know that God has great things for the city of Dayton, our communities, our churches, our children, etc… I know that God has a blessing for each and every sister and their families!!

We are blessed right now just because we know Jesus!

If you missed the prayer meet its okay, we will be meeting every 1st Saturday of the Month at United Missionary Baptist Church 900 Lexington Ave Dayton, OH 45402.

Stop by sometime and visit United Baptist Church they have service every Sunday morning at 10:45am

Be encouraged today…that although we wait in expectancy, we also live blessed!

We serve an awesome God who is always victorious!

Be blessed today and everyday!

WE HAVE POWER IN CHRIST!

MP900387802

There are periods in our life when we go through challenges that seem to come one after another.  Have you ever said “If it is not one thing, it’s another? We all have gone through times like this.   What do we do when we feel the pressures of life? Is it at this time that we take a break from life? Do we give up? Do we give in and find an easier way?

I am reminded of 2 Timothy 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him….

Your saying sis…I understand, but I need that time of reign to come quickly…

I encourage you that God has seen our efforts, and our labor is not in vain.  God has heard every cry and he is soon to answer.  If we would really focus and take our minds off our current circumstances we can see that we are truly blessed people of God.

God’s mercies to us are brand new each morning, His love is never failing and his peace surpasses all understanding.

I can be encouraged today that although I may not be where I want to be.  I am soooo far from where I used to be.  For this I am forever grateful to God!

Luke 10:19 Jesus tells us that He has given power unto us to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt us.

We have power in Christ—we have the power to move or be still, we have the ability to take action, we have the power to change, we have the power to be healed, we have power to be prosperous, we have power to walk in love, to forgive,  —we have authority through the guidance of the Holy Spirit to be all that God created us to be.

It is our ability to press forward against the force of great adversity that proves the power of our faith…knowing that God is our strength.

Our prayer today is that God would guide and protect us. Strengthen and renew our spirits. That our peace is renewed… That we take on the mind of Christ and gain a new outlook of our circumstances.

Our prayer is that we are more than mentally aware, and that we know within our hearts that we are over-comers in Christ.
Our prayer is that we walk in God’s love and grace…

Be encouraged…You have Power!!!

You are blessed today and every day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all Our Wonderful Mothers!!

We were encouraged to continue to work for God even if no one recognizes our service. To walk in the authority Christ has given us despite opposition and adversity.

We were encouraged to pursue God; to be sure our passion has purpose.  We were encouraged to prioritize our obligations, keep a balanced family life, to labor over the word of God, and to continue to stay connected to him.

We met so many wonderful and beautiful young ministers and I was so inspired by their passion for the word and for their love for Christ. I was so blessed to connect with ministers from my own hometown (Tiffany Rene, Essence, and Candace) I enjoyed personal conversations with Jessica B. and Jessica R. and many others!

Prayer Call 4/25/13 We Lift Up Our Heads Because Our Confidence is in God!

We Lift Up Our Heads Because Our Confidence is in God!

I love the scripture found in Psalm 24:7 it reads: Lift up your heads, O ye gates and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

Every struggle, every heartache, sickness, and all other challenges will attempt to wear us down..cause us to become weak and tired. Our past mistakes, financial struggles, and rejection will try and bring about shame to try and get us to put our heads down. We refuse to give in to the attacks of the enemy and we walk in the authority given to us in Christ!

Today we remind each other to lift up our heads!

As I began to study this text I learned that the holy congregation would sit inside the gates of the city waiting inside for the King. The King approached the gates and announces himself and asks for entry. The doorkeeper asks who He is, and the response if it is correct allows the King to gain entry. (See the New Spirit Filled Life Bible)

We have to remind ourselves daily that no matter how tough the fight, we are more than conquerors through Christ. We have to remind ourselves that we have fighting on our behalf, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. With God fighting for us there is no way we can lose!

We are the doorkeepers to our hearts and once we hear the King’s response we are responsible for letting him in!

God will fight for us and he is more than able to succeed.

We have a responsibility to spend time in the Word so that we know what Our Father’s response is to our heart challenges.

Our King’s Response Is:  I am the Alpha and the Omega (Rev 1:8), I am the beginning and the end (Rev 1:8), I am Jehova Jireh-your provider (Gen 22:14), I am a very present help in the time if trouble (Psalm 46:1)
I am your secret place (Psalm 91:1), your refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1)! I am the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle (Psalm 24:7)

We have NOTHING to worry about because God has us covered!

Be encouraged today knowing that you can get through anything because you have the Great ONE fighting on your behalf!

We thank God today for his love and grace!

Be blessed to be a blessing!

Let us know how you are doing!
